Cyber-criminals can install malicious software (malware) on your computer without your knowledge.
Malware provides criminals with a door to your computer and an opportunity to steal information and capture keystrokes on your keyboard,
and can be installed as easily as visiting a website compromised by fraudsters and clicking on an infected link, or clicking on an infected link or attachment in an email.
Up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software will provide considerable protection from such malicious attacks but cannot provide 100% protection.
Consider these best practices for an added layer of security:
If possible, dedicate a computer for online banking that will not be used for any other Internet activity
Keep anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date, with “auto-update” turned on
Never open links or attachments in unsolicited emails and question unexpected emails containing attachments or links from known associates
Ensure wireless routers are secure by encrypting connections and password protecting access
Ensure operating system and application patches are installed regularly
Review online banking balances and activity at least daily
Contact your IT professional immediately if you notice your computer or network acting “unusual”, such as asking for permission to install unexpected updates or make multiple changes,
or if your machine or network appears to be running slower than usual.
Contact Citizens Business Bank Client Support immediately if you are prompted for your
online banking credentials anywhere other than during normal log-in and the initiation of transactions.
